upWhat is visualCVS?
visualCVS is a configuration management environment based on the open source tool CVS (Concurrent Version System). visualCVS offers:
  • Workbench Browser for daily use or as integration environment (IDE)
  • Archive Browser for repository management
  • Baseline Browser for graphical representation of the repository
  • Workflow support
  • Powerful search tool
  • Extensive search and filter capabilities
  • Multiple platform support (Windows, Linux, Solaris, ...)

upWhat is CVS?
CVS has become one of the most spread systems for configuration management. CVS is a file based version management tool offering a rich functionality. Single files as well as large scale development projects can be maintained through CVS.

upWhich version of CVS is used by visualCVS?
visualCVS makes use of the standard CVS program and is therefore fully compatible to CVS. The standard distribution is delivered with CVS Version 1.11 on all platforms. Note, that it is also possible to configure visualCVS to use a different version of the CVS program.

upCan I use visualCVS with my existing repository?
visualCVS makes use of the standard CVS program and is therefore fully compatible to CVS. visualCVS can therefore be used on existing repositories without applying any change to the repository.

upCan I use a Windows system as repository server?
visualCVS supports variants of CVS such as CVS for NT. The current version of visualCVS therefore supports Windows servers.
